Michael Claitor “Mike” Brown, resident of the Saulsbury Community in Hardeman County with extended family members in Fayette County departed this life Wednesday evening, December 18, 2013 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital where he had been a patient for five days. He was 61 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Brown were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 28th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. A Private Interment followed in the Woods Cemetery at Hickory Valley, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Brown was born February 9, 1952 in Memphis, the son of Lula Maciel Kelley Brown and the late Jack Edward Brown. He received his education in the Memphis City Public School System and had been a self-employed construction contractor for much of his life before retiring two years ago for health reasons. He was of the Baptist faith and had been a resident of the Saulsbury Community for the past 30 years.
Mr. Brown enjoyed fishing when time permitted and repairing automobiles and other motorized equipment. He was a lifelong resident of the Shelby, Hardeman and Fayette County areas.
Mr. Brown is survived by his daughter, Jennifer Lynn Etheridge of Bartlett; three sons, Christopher Michael Brown of Southaven, MS, James Edward Brown of Atlanta, GA, Charles Edward Brown of Bartlett; his mother, Lula Brown of Saulsbury; and three grandchildren.
In addition to his father, Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his brother, James Edward Brown.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Woods Cemetery Association at Saulsbury or to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
