Michael Patrick "Mike" Donovan, age 65, resident of the Somerville Community and husband of the late Kathy Cobb Donovan, departed this life Thursday morning, July 16, 2015 at the Methodist Hospice Residence in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Donovan were conducted at 11 A.M. Monday, July 20, 2015 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Stan McDaniel, pastor of the Somerville First United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Donovan was born May 30, 1950 in Memphis, the son of the former Jean Wilson and the late John Donovan. He was a graduate of Hillcrest High School and was a lifelong resident of the West Tennessee area. He served his country in the United States Army and was awarded a Purple Heart. He was married to the former Kathy Cobb, who preceded him in death. Mr. Donovan was of the Methodist faith and was employed with the United States Postal Service as a letter carrier before his retirement. He enjoyed golfing, having served as the golf pro at Briargate Country Club, and preparing food for his family and friends.
Mr. Donovan is survived by two daughters, Lindsey Donovan of Memphis, Melissa Donovan of Somerville; his mother, Jean Bondani of Southaven, MS; three sisters, Lynn Pleasants (Woody) of Memphis, Terry Vincent (Mike) of Southaven, MS, Sherry Khalden (Dale) of Memphis; his brother, Bobby Donovan (Julie) of Southaven, MS; his grandchild, Jaydyn Donovan of Somerville; and many nieces and nephews.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
