Miffie (Kelley) Johnson

January 18, 1939 — July 14, 2009

Miffie Kelley Johnson, resident of the Somerville Community and former Fayette County Juvenile Court Employee died at 10:05 A.M. Tuesday, July 14, 2009 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for three weeks. She was 70 years of age and died following a four-week illness.

Funeral services for Ms. Johnson were conducted at 4 P.M. Thursday, July 16th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Jim Whitley, Pastor of the Liberty Baptist Church at Laconia, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.

Ms. Johnson was born January 18, 1939 in Caraway Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph Raymond Kelley and Eva Mae Ballard Kelley.

She was educated in the Caraway Public School System and was a graduate of the West Memphis Arkansas High School, Class of 1957.

Ms. Johnson was a former resident of West Memphis from 1953 to 1963 and had been a resident of Fayette County for the past forty-six years.

She was of the Baptist faith and was employed in the Juvenile Court Division of Fayette County for a number of years before her retirement.

She will be remembered as a person devoted to her family and who enjoyed serving as a caregiver for her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors of Ms. Johnson include her daughter, Dianne Johnson of Morris Chapel, TN; three sons: Tim Johnson of Memphis; Dewey Johnson, Jr. of Florence, AL and Mark Johnson of Williston; two sisters, Louise Mooney and Linda Kelley; one brother, Clyde Kelley; five grandchildren, including a grandson that she considered her son, Matthew Johnson of Somerville and two great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by one brother, Dalton Kelley.

Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Jerry Kelley, Ray Kelley, Frank McKnight, Sam McKnight, Randy Walk and Steve Walk.
