MILDRED LOIS BROCK JENKINS, a longtime resident of the Somerville Community and retired Department Manager of the Somerville Fred's Discount Store died Monday morning, April 5, 2010 at the St. Frances Hospital in Memphis. She was 71 years of age and died following a two-month illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Jenkins were conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, April 8th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Rhesa Davis, Pastor of the Feather's Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Remarks and reflections were given by a family friend, Kathy Harbison, who followed with a song. Interment followed in the Ebenezer Cemetery at Williston, and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Born the daughter of John William Brock and Lois Jacobs Brock in Hardeman County, Mrs. Jenkins was preceded in death by her parents.
She attended Grand Junction Schools where she graduated and became a resident of the Williston/Somerville Community in 1964.
She was employed by the local Fred's Discount Store for seventeen years where she retired as a Department Manager.
A member of Feather's Chapel Baptist Church, Mrs. Jenkins was a devoted homemaker, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and a cherished member of her community.
Her gentle disposition and grace will be remembered by many, both old and young, whom she has greatly inspired.
Survivors of Mrs. Jenkins include two daughters, Charlotte Ashford of Jacksonville, FL and Tammi Miller of DeRidder, LA; three sons: Sam Ashford of Memphis; Eddie Ashford of Brighton and Hays Davis of Chesterfield, VA; two brothers, Leon Brock and Harold Brock, both of Hickory Valley, TN; her half-sister, Louise Brock Merrick of Henderson, NV; 9 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were family members and friends.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
