MILDRED VERNICE CHRISTIAN, a resident of the Somerville Community and retail business cashier in the area for a number of years died Sunday morning, January 24, 2010 at the home of her daughter in Somerville. She was 55 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Christian were conducted at 1 P.M. Friday, January 29th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Father Stephen Kenny of St. Philip The Apostle Catholic Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64 near Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Christian was born October 25, 1954 in Star, Mississippi the daughter of the late L. R. Churchill and the late Frances Louise Day Churchill.
She was educated in the Hollister, Missouri Public School System and was a resident of Missouri before moving to Fayette County ten years ago.
She was employed as a Cashier for the Taco Bell and Circle K Convenience Store Companies for a number of years before her illness.
She enjoyed special times with her grandchildren, and her interests included gardening, bingo, word search games and puzzles.
A Christian, she was associated with both Baptist and Catholic denominations and was the wife of Norman Larry Miller.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Christian is survived by two daughters, Bobbie Sue Maturen and Amber Nicole Jennings, both of Somerville; her son, Larry Wayne White of Oakland; three sisters: Diane Boone of Henning, TN; Barbara Jean Stewart of Reeds Spring, MO and Pauline Knupp of Black Mountain, NC; four brothers: Jimmy White of Horn Lake, MS and J. B. White, Edward White and Bufford White of Laurel, MS and eight grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Bobby Boone, Andrew Farris, Steve Hall, R. J. Maturen, Richard Shepard, Claudie Smith and George Whittemore.
Bobby Maturen, Cole Maturen, Nathaniel Maturen, Robert Maturen, Patrick Miller, Austin Smith and Hope Smith were honorary casket bearers.
