Minnie Johnson
1940—2011
Minnie Lou Cates Johnson, resident of Selmer, Tennessee and former resident of Fayette County died Thursday evening, April 14, 2011 at the St. Francis Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for four days. She was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Johnson were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, April 18
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Kenneth Culver, pastor of the Warren Community Church officiating. Interment followed in the Eads Cemetery at Eads, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of the Eads Community, Mrs. Johnson was born February 7, 1940. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie Cates and Ada Irene Henley Cates. She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a lifelong resident of McNairy, Fayette and Shelby counties in West Tennessee.
Mrs. Johnson was of the Baptist faith and in earlier years had been employed by the Somerville Manufacturing Company and the Action Apparel Company in Ramer, TN. A family oriented person who enjoyed preparing food for her family, Mrs. Johnson will be remembered for her love of hunting, fishing and drag racing.
Mrs. Johnson was survived by her daughter: Brenda Kay Franks of Somerville; her son: Ronnie Gene Johnson of Hickory Withe; two sisters: Naomi Johnson of Gallaway and Ruth Bishop of Whiteville; a brother: Thomas Buddy Cates of Hickory Withe; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild to arrive soon.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were
James “Bubba” Cates, Barry Keith Johnson, Jimmy Michael Johnson, Ray “Junior” Robertson, Billy Michael Taylor and Andy Thompson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Eads Cemetery Association or to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
