MODEAN WEATHERFORD HOWELL, a resident of the Somerville Community, retired grocery merchant and wife of the late Robert Leo Howell died at 8:45 P.M. Sunday, October 7, 2007 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where she had been a resident for several months. She was 81 years of age.
Funeral services for Mrs. Howell were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, October 10th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Loyd Shelton, Baptist Minister of Rossville, officiating. Interment followed in the Perry Cemetery near Laconia. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel.
Mrs. Howell was born January 30, 1926 in Crocket Spur, AR., the daughter of the late Francis Edgar Weatherford and the late Nettie Dollar Weatherford. She was educated in the Arkansas Public School system and was married March 9, 1946 to Robert Leo Howell of Fayette County who died September 10, 1985.
Mr. and Mrs. Howell owned and operated the L & M Grocery Store in Somerville for a number of years before Mr. Howell's death. She was a longtime resident of Fayette County and her interests included sewing, quilting and flower gardening.
Survivors of Mrs. Howell include two grandchildren: Tim Callahan and Kimberly Van, both of New Albany, MS and three great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Lockie Howell Markle and a grandson Charles Shane Glover.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers included Rob Hardin, Stacey Givens, Keith Dunlap and Ronnie Markle.
