Morgan Wayne Tankersley

September 4, 1939 — August 24, 2014

Morgan Wayne Tankersley, resident of the Oakland Community, retired HVAC technician, United States Army Vietnam Veteran and husband of Jo Tankersley, departed this life Sunday morning, August 24, 2014 at his residence. He was 74 years of age and died following an extended illness.

Services of Remembrance for Mr. Tankersley were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, August 27th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Eddie Little, pastor of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the Autumn Woods Memorial Park at Olive Branch, Mississippi. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Tankersley was born September 4, 1939 in Moore County, Tennessee. He received his education in the Moore County Public School System and served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War Period. He was married November 19, 1977 to the former Jo Gann, who survives. He attended First Baptist Church Hickory Withe and was a member of the American Legion.

Mr. Tankersley was employed as a heating and air conditioner technician for over 50 years, most recently for Roy May Heating & Air Company in Cordova for over 50 years, before his retirement in 2005. He had been a resident of the Oakland Community since 1998 and enjoyed outdoor activities that included cookouts, football, fishing, wrestling and NASCAR. He will be remembered for being a person that "never met a stranger" and special times with his family, friends and his special canine companion, "Molly".

In addition to his wife of 36 years, Mr. Tankersley is survived by his children, Kimberly “Kimmy” Crane (David) of Southaven, MS, Dean Coleman (Sheri) of Olive Branch, MS; mother, Louise Simpson Tankersley of Tullahoma; and grandchildren, Brandon Coleman and Reid Austin Smith.

He was preceded in death by his father, Morris Tankersley and his son, Douglas Clayton Tankersley.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Brandon Coleman, Scott Taylor, Greg Weiss, Randy Sumerville, Joe Reed and Larry Smith.

Honorary casketbearers were Eugene Butchen, Bob Moore, Sonny Jackson, Don Brimm and Ron Daigrepont.
