Mr. Carol Maurice Chambers

Mr. Carol Maurice Chambers, resident of the Somerville Community, United States Air Force Veteran and husband of the late Betty Ann Buffaloe Chambers departed this life Sunday morning, April 14, 2013 at the Crestview Health Care Center in Brownsville where he had been a patient for one week. He was 80 years of age and died following an illness of five weeks.

Services of Remembrance with Military Recognition for Mr. Chambers were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday, April 17th with Dr. Mark Howard of the Christ Community Church in Bells, Tennessee officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Special Music at the Graveside was provided by Melvin German. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Chambers was born January 9, 1933 in the Macon Community of Fayette County. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus Branch Chambers and Pearl Lorene Hampton Chambers. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was married September 21, 1952 to the former Betty Ann Buffaloe. Mrs. Chambers preceded him in death on August 21, 2012.

Mr. Chambers served in the United States Air Force in earlier years and was employed for Simmco in Brownsville for nine years and as a welder for the National Butane Gas Company in Memphis for 35 years before his retirement. He was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and had been a resident of the Somerville Community for the past 50 years.

He will be remembered as a mentor to many of the young people in Fayette County and was instrumental in the formation of the Morris-Chambers Athletic Field and Park in Somerville. Mr. Morris devoted many hours in supporting the activities for the youth of Fayette County. He also enjoyed raising bird dogs, hunting, auctions and the buying and selling of antiques. Being with his family and outdoor cooking and the building of grills were favorite pastimes.

Mr. Chambers is survived by three sons, Terry G. Chambers (Trish) of Brownsville, Carlton Chambers (Sherrie) of Collierville, Randall Chambers of Gallatin; his sister, Julie A. McCaskill of Somerville; five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two sisters, Dorothy Jenkins, Linda Crafton; and his brother, Darrell Glenn Chambers.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were David Roberts, Richard Hillman, Clyde Buffaloe, Jr., Steve Crafton, Greg McCaskill and Oston Saxon.
Honorary casketbearers were Blake Chambers, Ethan Chambers, Tyler Chambers and Miller Saxon.
