Mrs. Billie Dean (Moore) Long

Mrs. Billie Dean Moore Long, age 80, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of the late Delmer Lee Long, departed this life Monday evening, January 5, 2015 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Long will be conducted at 10 A.M. Thursday, January 8th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with visitation one hour before services. Interment will follow in the Oakland City Cemetery. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Long was born January 12, 1934 in West Point, Mississippi. She was preceded in death by her parents, John W. Moore and Gladys L. Howell Moore. She received her education in the Clay County, Mississippi Public School System where she played basketball at West Point High School. She was married April 28, 1986 to Delmer Lee Long, preceded her in death on January 16, 1995.

Mrs. Long was a resident of the Oakland Community for many years and was employed as a waitress for various restaurants before her retirement. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed crocheting and fishing and camping in earlier years.

Mrs. Long is survived by four daughters, Susan Smith (Jimmy) of Brownsville, TN, Sally Jo Farris (Robin) of Olive Branch, MS, Nancy Ann Warner of Oakland, TN, Tina Marie Marino of Oakland, TN; two sons, Bill Armstrong (Genetta) of Arlington, TN, Johnny Armstrong of Oakland, TN; her daughter-in-law, Pat Armstrong of Holly Springs, MS; fifteen grandchildren, Matthew Kirk, Jeremy Kirk, Carrie Kirk, April Stewart, Jessica Kennedy, Renee Kennedy, Holly Warner, Amanda Paige Warner, Sarah Creel, Hannah Jo Farris, Christopher Armstrong, Kristy Armstrong, Jennifer Powell, Elias Mendez, Destin Marino; and fourteen great grandchildren.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Bonnie Richardson; her son, Jessie Armstrong, Jr.; and her sister, Ruth C. Moore.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Jimmy Smith, Billy Warner, Jarrod Knudson, Matthew Kirk, Jeremy Kirk and Keith Marino.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Mayo Clinic, 200 First Street SW, Rochester, MN 55905.
