Willie Lou Griffin Markle, longtime resident of the Lakeland/Arlington Communities and wife of John Edd Markle departed this life peacefully early Wednesday morning, November 14, 2012 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown where she had been a patient for three days. She was 90 years of age and died following an illness of two years.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Markle were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, November 17th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Cecil Bellew, pastor of the Chambers Chapel United Methodist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Chambers Chapel Cemetery near Arlington. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center — West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Markle was born February 6, 1922 in the Arlington Community. She was preceded in death by her parents, James Edwin “Mr. Jim” Griffin, Sr. and Fannie Belle “Miss Fannie” Wylie Griffin, early residents of the Arlington/Lakeland areas. She received her education in the Tennessee Public School System and was a graduate of the Nicholas-Blackwell High School at Bartlett.
She was married May 27, 1950 to John Edd Markle, retired employee for the State of Tennessee Highway Department at Arlington, who survives. Mrs. Markle was also employed in the office of the State of Tennessee Highway Department at Arlington for a number of years before her retirement.
She and her family were devoted members for many years of the Chambers Chapel United Methodist Church. She was a person who loved traveling and being with family and friends. She leaves a host of dear friends that included several that were members of her high school graduating class that continued to gather for special occasions. Mrs. Markle was devoted to her family. She will be remembered as an ageless lady who took much pride in her appearance.
In addition to her husband of 62 years, Mrs. Markle was the beloved aunt to numerous nieces and nephews, who survive. She was preceded in death by two brothers, William Louis Griffin and James Edwin (Jack) Griffin, Jr.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Danny Griffin, Justin Griffin, Steve Markle, Donald Lee Markle, Tommy Morrisson and Ronnie Markle.
