Myrtle Christeen “Chris” Bullock Hinkel, resident of the Oakland Community and wife of Dr. Fred Hinkel died Tuesday afternoon, September 28, 2010 at her residence. She was 59 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Sunset Graveside Service for Mrs. Hinkel was conducted at 5:30 Thursday afternoon, September 30th. The officiating ministers were her brother-in-law, R ev. Michael Besspiata of Washington, District of Columbia and Rev. Carl Doyle of Oakland. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
A native of Crab Orchard, Kentucky, Mrs. Hinkel was born October 31, 1950. She was preceded in death by her parents Robert R. Bullock and Sarah Elizabeth Smith Bullock. She received her education in the public school system of California and was married in 1968 to Dr. Freddie Lee Hinkel, a medical pathologist, who survives.
Mrs. Hinkel was a former resident of Wagram, North Carolina and had been a resident of the Oakland Community for the past thirty-five years. She was of the Baptist Faith and was a devoted homemaker who enjoyed preparing food for others and special times with her family. Mrs. Hinkel received much enjoyment from family gatherings at her weekend home located at Grand Valley Lakes in Hardeman County.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hinkel is survived by her two daughters: Kerri Brakefield (Roger) of Oakland and Dana Hinkel of Memphis, her sister, Carolyn Besspiata (Michael) of Washington, District of Columbia, her brother, William R. Bullock, Sr. (Jean) of Summerville, South Carolina and two granddaughters, Lindsay Brakefield of Oakland and Lauren Brakefield of Oakland.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Roger Brakefield, William R. Bullock, Sr., Arnold Edwards, II, Zachary Huff, Mack Mackelravey and Charlie Pardue.
