Nancy Carol (Camp) Smith

July 11, 1940 — March 8, 2015

Nancy Carol Camp Smith, age 74, resident of Bartlett and wife of the late D. Gene Smith, departed this life Sunday evening, March 8, 2015 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Smith were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, March 12th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Bill Pearce, former pastor at Rugby Hills Baptist Church in Frayser, officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Smith was born July 11, 1940 in Memphis. She was preceded in death by her parents, the former Nancy Louise Epperson and Charles Roundtree Camp. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of Frayser High School Class of 1958. She was married October 16, 1959 to Dorris Gene Smith who preceded her in death on August 13, 2013. Mrs. Smith was a lifelong resident of Shelby County and had been a member of Rugby Hills Baptist Church in Frayser since 1950, where was a member of the WMU. She enjoyed being with her church family, preparing food, watching school activities and sports, special times with her grandchildren and serving others in nursing homes.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her daughter, Bonnie Sue Smith Perry (Joe) of Olive Branch, MS; her son, Darryl G. Smith (Patty) of Bartlett; and four grandchildren, Tiffany Perry, Carley Perry, Daniel Smith and Benjamin Smith.

In addition to her husband and father, she was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Evans Camp who died in 1989.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Hearing Health Foundation , 363 Seventh Avenue, 10th Floor, New York, NY 10001-3904 or the Discovery Eye Foundation , 6222 Wilshire Boulevard, Suite 260, Los Angeles, CA 90048.
