Nell (Varnell) McDaniel

Nell Varnell McDaniel, age 60, resident of Memphis and wife of David McDaniel, departed this life Tuesday morning, June 10, 2014 at the Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.

Services for Mrs. McDaniel were conducted at 3 P.M. Friday, June 13th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. McDaniel was born December 1, 1953 in Florence, Alabama. She was preceded in death by her parents, Douglas Grady Varnell and Helen Etoyle South Varnell. She received her education in the Shelby County Public School System and was a graduate of Treadwell High School. She was married September 18, 1984 to David McDaniel, a fire safety system inspector, who survives.

Mrs. McDaniel was employed with the Shelby County Clerk's Office for 18 years before her retirement. She was of the Presbyterian faith and enjoyed Alabama Football, special times with her grandson and dogs.

In addition to her husband of 29 years, Mrs. McDaniel is survived by her daughter, Lori DePriest (Robert) of Olive Branch, MS; her sister, Dianne Abernathy (Richard) of Memphis; and her grandson, Parker Miles DePriest.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her infant son, Gordon Douglas Vining.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Robert DePriest, Daniel Little, Mitch Mize, Rick Abernathy, Doug Abernathy and James Ladet.
