Nina Louise (Prince) Byrum

September 21, 1925 — May 8, 2017

Nina Louise Prince Byrum, age 91, resident of Olive Branch, Mississippi, former resident of Somerville, Tennessee and wife of the late L.B. Byrum, departed this life Monday afternoon, May 8, 2017 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Byrum were conducted at 1 P.M. Thursday, May 11, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Stan Smith, pastor of the Somerville First Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Byrum was born September 21, 1925 in Madison County, Tennessee. She received her education in the Haywood County Public School System and was employed as a bookkeeper and was married December 30, 1940 to Lon Benton “L.B.” Byrum. Mrs. Byrum was a seamstress and bookkeeper for many years before her retirement. She was a longtime resident of the Somerville area and a member of Somerville First Baptist Church. Mrs. Byrum enjoyed reading her Bible, working in her yard, tending to her flowers, embroidering and taking care of her family.

Mrs. Byrum is survived by her daughter, Joetta Marie Byrum Ray (Charles “Bubba”) of Olive Branch, MS and six grandchildren, Jeremy Byrum of Bartlett, TN, Timothy Byrum of Somerville, TN, Jack Ray (Julie) of Olive Branch, MS, Robert Ray (Debbie) of Somerville, TN, Denise Behr (Tim) of Southaven, MS and Charles Ray of Memphis, TN.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lon Benton “L.B” Byrum who died July 15, 2008; her son, Lon Benton Byrum, Jr.; her parents, Henry Forest Prince and Nancy Cordelia Rhodes Prince; three sisters, Daisy Hooper, Lily Burse, Etta Qualls; two brothers, James Prince, Eugene Prince; and her grandson, Lon Benton Byrum, III.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Jack Ray, Robert Ray, Jeremy Byrum, Timothy Byrum, Charles Ray, Floyd "Buster" Qualls and Wayne Qualls.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
