NONNIE LOIS PARROTT REEVES, longtime resident of the Somerville Community and wife of the late Roy Reeves died Saturday morning, February 20, 2010 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville where she had been a patient for a day. She was 95 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Reeves were conducted at 3 P.M. Sunday, February 21st at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. David Reeves, Pastor of the Mid-Way Baptist Church at Whiteville, officiating. Interment followed in the Evergreen Cemetery at Williston. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Reeves was born November 3, 1914 in Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Milford Clyde Parrott and Nonnie Lou Guy Parrott, early residents of the Williston/Somerville areas.
She was educated in the Fayette County Public School System and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1932.
Mrs. Reeves was married December 23, 1935 to Roy Reeves, longtime Fayette County Farmer and Landowner who preceded her in death on May 31, 1994 after fifty-eight years of marriage.
Mrs. Reeves was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a dedicated homemaker throughout her life and was also employed in the Office of Salant & Salant Manufacturing Company in Somerville for twenty-five years before her retirement.
Mrs. Reeves was a longtime member of the Williston United Methodist Church and will be remembered for her love of quilting, flower gardening and music.
A woman of strength, courage, determination and independence, Mrs. Reeves served as an inspiration to her family and friends.
Mrs. Reeves survivors include her daughter, Bettye Lois Umbarger (James) of Somerville; her son, Royce Reeves (Joan) of Somerville; two sisters, Dot Reeves of Somerville and Inez Symonds of Olive Branch, MS; three grandsons: Jimmy Umbarger, Steve Reeves and Ken Reeves, all of Somerville and four great-grandchildren: Shelby Reeves, Gracie Reeves, Sophie Umbarger and Will Reeves.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Mike Parrott, Jimmy Umbarger, Steve Reeves, Ken Reeves, Jack Dawson and Bill Moore.
