Nora Lee Roberts Carter, age 85, resident of Saulsbury and wife of Roy E. Carter, departed this life Saturday afternoon, January 23, 2016 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Carter were conducted at 12 Noon Thursday, January 28, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Virginia Finzel officiating. Interment followed in the Memphis Memory Gardens Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Carter was born January 11, 1931 in Memphis. She received her education in the Memphis City School System and was married for 46 years to Roy E. Carter. She was a lifelong resident of West Tennessee and was a member of the Grand Junction United Methodist Church. Mrs. Carter was employed as a teacher for the Hardeman County School System before her retirement and was a member of the Order of the Eastern Star. She enjoyed preparing food for her family and friends and sewing.
Mrs. Carter is survived by her husband, Roy E. Carter of Saulsbury; two daughters, Janice Morrissett (Larry) of Atoka, Peggy Banks (Gary) of Somerville; two stepdaughters, Patrice Renee Lavender (Mike) of Atoka, Debra Faye Long of Munford; her stepson, Rory Carter (Alana) of Somerville; two sisters, Barbara Jean Rorie of Asheville, NC, Nell Harwell (James) of Eads; nine grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Jessie Roberts and Ruth Mansfield Roberts; her daughter, Sandra Harvey who died October 30, 2015; two brothers and six sisters.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Gary Banks, Mike Lavander, Rory Carter, Matt Baugh, Dan Morrissett and Michael Morrissett.
The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
