Norma Jean Sims Austin

January 11, 1937 — March 10, 2008

NORMA JEAN SIMS AUSTIN, a resident of the Hickory With Community and wife of Bobby Gene Austin, died at 11 A.M. Monday, March 10, 2008 at the National Healthcare Center in Somerville where she had been a resident for the past two weeks. She was 71 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Austin were conducted at 11 A.M. Wednesday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. Rhesa Davis, pastor of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Mt. Pleasant Cemetery in the Hillville Community near Whiteville.
Arrangements followed in the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of Obion County, Tennessee, Mrs. Austin was born January 11, 1937. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elvis Sims and Mary Beasley Sims, her sons, Charles Stanley Austin, Timothy Darnell Austin and three brothers, Cotton, Bo and George Sims.
Mrs. Austin was a resident of Memphis before moving to Fayette County thirty-five years ago. She was an office employee of Schering-Plough Incorporated in Memphis for twenty-seven years before her retirement ten years ago. She was a devoted member of the Feathers Chapel Baptist Church at Somerville where she participated in numerous church activities that included being a member of the choir. Her pleasures included flower gardening, crocheting, family times and caring for her grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of 51 years, Mrs. Austin is survived by her granddaughters, Jennifer Austin and Karen Austin, her great-grandson, Anthony Austin, all of Hickory With; her sisters, Mary Fay Whitt of Skokie, IL, Evelyn Albright of Obion, TN and her brother, Charles Sims of Obion, TN.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chris Baker, Robert Lewis, Eddie Meyer, Keith Sims, Allan Sims and B.J. Clutts.
