Mary Norma Simmons Davis, age 81, resident of Oakland and wife of the late William Earl Davis, departed this life Thursday morning, August 25, 2016 at the National HealthCare Center in Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Davis will be conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Peebles Funeral Home West Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Drew Murphy officiating. Interment will follow in the Halls Cemetery in Lauderdale County, Tennessee. A visitation for Mrs. Davis will be from 1 until 2 P.M. Tuesday, August 30, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Davis was born January 17, 1935 in Halls, Tennessee. She received her education in Halls, Tennessee and was married June 18, 1952 to William Earl Davis. She was a resident of Oakland for 20 years and was employed as a secretary and bookkeeper for Shelby Presidential & Vocational Services before her retirement. Mrs. Davis was a member of the Fayette Baptist Church, where she taught children in Sunday School and Training Union, Special Education, Vacation Bible School and was a nursery worker. She took care of children in her home, taking them to school, helping them with homework, preparing food and doing their laundry as well as going on trips with them, up to two weeks at a time.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her daughter, Angie Davis Champion of Olive Branch, MS; her son, Jeffrey Davis of Oakland; and two grandchildren Christopher Jeffrey Davis of Oakland and Mallorie Champion of Olive Branch, MS., and one great-granddaughter, Aria Campbell.
She was preceded in death by her husband, William Earl Davis and her parents, Ira Wilbourn Simmons and Martha Frances Reed Simmons, and a son Michael Earl Davis.
