Norma (Martin) Jones

Norma Martin Jones, Memphis resident, native of the Macon Community in Fayette and wife of Mike Jones died Tuesday evening, December 27, 2011 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis. She was 67 years of age and died unexpectedly from a catastrophic brain aneurysm.

Graveside Services for Mrs. Jones will be 2 Friday afternoon at Elmwood Cemetery in Memphis. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 Thursday evening at Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Memphis. Arrangements are provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel of Oakland.

A native of Fayette County, Mrs. Jones was born December 19, 1944. She was preceded in death by her parents, Charlie C. Martin and Grace L. Snell Martin, residents of the Macon Community. She grew up in a close-knit family of ten with seven siblings. She moved at an early age to Memphis, where she was a resident for much of her life.

Mrs. Jones was married December 9, 1968 to Charles Michael “Mike” Jones, a retired Memphis Photographer, who survives. Mrs. Jones was employed in the administration department of the Memphis City School System for over 35 years before her retirement ten years ago. After retirement, she found her greatest joy in being “Gran” to her four beloved grandchildren, Owen, Leighton, Lily Ryan and Conley. She was a member of the Evergreen Presbyterian Church in Memphis.

In addition to her husband of 43 years, Mrs. Jones is survived by her two beloved daughters, Emily Jones Melton (Scott), Susan Jones Schwartz (Brent); and four grandchildren.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
