NINA JEAN MCKINLEY "NORMA" MILLER, resident of the Oakland Community, longtime Hair Stylist and wife of Billy F. Miller died Friday morning, October 16, 2009 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis where she had been a patient for four days. She was 65 years of age and died unexpectedly.
Funeral services for Mrs. Miller were conducted at 10 A.M. Monday, October 19th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel near Oakland with Dr. Wayne Marshall, Pastor of the Longview Baptist Church in Olive Branch, Mississippi, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mrs. Miller was born March 22, 1944 in Ripley, Tennessee the daughter of John Elvis McKinley and Maggie Pope McKinley, who both preceded her in death.
She moved with her family to the Shelby County area at an early age where she attended Memphis City Schools including Westwood. She continued her education at the Highland Plaza Beautician School where she gained her skills and credentials.
She later relocated from the Memphis area to the Oakland Community where she had resided for the past thirty-eight years.
On June 12, 1960 she married Billy F. Miller, a retired Foreman for the IC Railroad, who survives.
Mrs. Miller was employed as a Hair Stylist for Gould's Salon for thirty years and more recently at The Salon of Cordova for six years before her recent retirement.
A Baptist, Mrs. Miller's sparkling personality endeared her to her many patrons and all who knew her.
A travel enthusiast, she loved reading, gardening, music and dancing and most notably, doting on her three grandchildren.
In addition to her husband of forty-nine years, survivors of Mrs. Miller include her daughter, Tamatha Renee Satcher of Southaven; son, Ronnie Miller of the Fisherville Community; four sisters: Della Bates of Ripley, TN; Frances Johnson of Nesbit, MS; Sandra Henson of Waverly, TN and Lilly Levels of Ripley, TN; two brothers, J. C. McKinley and Jackie McKinley, both of Ripley, TN and three grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Ken Satcher, Dale Jones, Gary Johnson, Mike Johnson, Lance Burgess and J. D. Henson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
