Odis “Odie” Crisp, longtime resident of the Oak Grove Community near Moscow, United States Veteran and husband of the late Florann Crisp died Tuesday evening, May 8, 2012 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Collierville where he had been a patient for two days. He was 89 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Services for Mr. Crisp will be at 4 Friday afternoon at the Oak Grove Baptist Church in Moscow. Interment with Military Honors will be in the Oak Grove Cemetery. A visitation for Mr. Crisp will be from 2 to 4 Friday afternoon at the Oak Grove Baptist Church. Arrangements will be provided by the Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Crisp was born December 12, 1922 in Parkin, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jake Crisp and Ophelia Mae Burlison Crisp. He moved at an early age with his parents to Mt. Pleasant, MS and received his education in the Mississippi Public School System. He proudly served his country under General Dwight D. Eisenhower in the United States Army during the World War II period and served in the Civilian Conservation Corps detachment in Holly Springs, MS during the early 1940’s.
He was married to the former Florann Hunsucker of Fayette County, who preceded him in death in 1995. Mr. Crisp was a farmer in earlier years and was later employed by the Facemate Textile Manufacturing Company in Collierville before his retirement. Mr. Crisp had been a resident of the Moscow Community for over 60 years and was a longtime member of the Oak Grove Baptist Church.
He received pleasure in woodcrafting throughout his life and enjoyed building wagons, birdhouses and other items that he shared with family members and friends. He was devoted to his wife and family and had a special love for his nieces and nephews.
Mr. Crisp is survived by his brother, Denver Crisp of Moscow and a host of nieces and nephews as well as great nieces and great nephews.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Daniel Crisp, John M. Crisp, Nick Crisp, Keith Crisp, Joe Crisp, Curtis Willis and Ricky Ward.
