OMIE VIRGINIA TAPP DAVIS BRUCE, a resident of the Laconia Community and wife of the late Ernest Edgar Davis and the late Coy Calvin Bruce, died Wednesday evening, March 31, 2010 at her residence. She was 90 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mrs. Bruce were conducted at 1 P.M. Saturday, April 3rd at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Dr. Clint Buck, Pastor of the Mt. Carmel Presbyterian Church in Laconia, officiating. Interment followed in the Old Union Cemetery at Laconia, and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Bruce was born February 14, 1920 in Falkner, Mississippi to Samuel Oscar Tapp and Sarah Emily Huddleston Tapp, both now deceased.
She attended schools in the Benton County Mississippi Public School District and was married to Ernest Edgar Davis, who preceded her in death April 22, 1995 and later to Coy Calvin Bruce, who preceded her in death on September 2, 1999.
She was employed for twenty-three years in the garment industry including Susan's Fashion in Memphis before her retirement twenty-five years ago.
A Christian, she attended the Bell City Baptist Church in Fredonia, Kentucky, and she enjoyed sewing, gardening, flowers, and special times with her family and grandchildren.
Survivors of Mrs. Bruce include two daughters, Bonnie Kennedy (Richard) of Eads and Eilene Patterson (Max) of Laconia; her son, Eddie Davis (Julia) of Bartlett; four sisters: Mayon Paseur of Moscow; Natalie Gray of Faulkner, MS; Nettie Brown of Walnut, MS and Inez Otten (Russ) of Walnut, MS; two brothers, S. A. Tapp (Billie) of Tiplersville, MS and James Tapp (Janie) of Corinth, MS; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great-grandchildren and thirteen great-great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and her husbands, she was preceded in death by two daughters, Lucy Miles and Jeanette Duke and three sisters: Lillian James, Ruby James and Carra James.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Corey Kennedy, Larry Leins, Michael Duke, Dustin Duke, Virgil Duke and Steve Stewart.
Richard Kennedy, Max Patterson and Lynn Duke were honorary casket bearers.
