Opal Nadine Taylor Hill, age 89, resident of Rossville and wife of the late James Lee Hill, Sr., departed this life Monday evening, March 2, 2015 at the Dove Healthcare Center in Collierville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Hill were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, March 7th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland. Interment was in the New Bethel Cemetery in Rossville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Hill was born January 21, 1926 in Iron City, Tennessee. She was preceded in death by her biological father, Hershel Taylor, her mother, Annie C. Houston Taylor McGee and her stepfather, James Alfred "Jim" McGee. She moved with her family at an early age to Fayette County and received her education in the Fayette County Public School System. She was married July 10, 1941 to James Lee Hill, Sr., who preceded her in death. Mrs. Hill was a homemaker throughout her life and was a devoted Christian and a member of Peterson Lake Baptist Church in Collierville. She was a volunteer at area nursing homes and her family states she "never met a stranger". Mrs. Hill enjoyed cooking and had a special love for her family and church family.
Mrs. Hill is survived by three daughters, Emogene Hill (Earl) of Rossville, Billie Tapp (Thomas) of Somerville, Judy Hollaway (Rev. Mike) of Bethel Springs; two sons, James Lee Hill, Jr. (Sandra) of Williston, Randy Hill (Angie) of Rossville; three sisters, Francis Garner (John) of Iuka, MS, Bonnie Burkeen (Ed) of Frayser, Gloria White of Bartlett; three brothers, Leonard McGee (Betty) of Bartlett, Jerry McGee (Ida) of Philippines, Ricky McGee (Barbara) of Memphis; 12 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Teri Lynn Hill; her infant granddaughter, Cindi Tapp; three sisters, Margie Miller, Martha Elbert, Shirley Irene Hart; and five brothers, Chalmers "Buddy" Taylor, William Taylor, Vernon Taylor, James McGee and Jimmy McGee.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Greg Tapp, Dewayne Lessel, Benjamin Hill, Johnathan Hill, Joshua Hill and Aaron Hill.
Honorary casketbearers were Earl Hill, Lee Hill, Thomas Tapp and Randy Hill.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
