ORBIE STEVEN DOLAN

ORBIE STEVEN DOLAN, U.S. Navy Veteran, resident of Collierville with extended family members in Fayette County, died at 6:35 A.M. Tuesday, January 29, 2008 at the Methodist Hospital in Germantown. He was 81 years of age and died following a brief illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Dolan were conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Rev. John McMullen, pastor of the Barton Baptist Church near Byhalia, MS, officiating. Interment, with military honors, followed in the Magnolia Cemetery at Collierville. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Dolan was born August 2, 1926, in Russellville, AL, the son of the late Levi A. Dolan and the late Ella James Dolan. He received his education in the public school system of Russellville, AL and proudly served in the United States Navy during the World War II period. He was the recipient of various medals which included the Good Conduct Medal, the American Area Campaign Medal and the WW II Victory Medal.
He was employed as a millwright for the Dupont Corp. for a number of years before his retirement nineteen years ago. Mr. Dolan was of the Baptist faith and his interests included fishing, music, watching western movies and wrestling. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Catherine, who died in October 12, 2006. At the time of his death, Mr. Dolan resided with a daughter, Jo Ann Johnson in Collierville, who also served as his caregiver.
Mr. Dolan is survived by four daughters, Doris Patterson of Cullman, AL, Catherine Hoskins of Collierville, Janice Sumner of Byhalia, MS, Jo Ann Johnson of Collierville; three sons, Wally Dolan of Hampton,VA, Gary Dolan of Phil Campbell, AL, Thomas Hoskins of Byhalia, MS; 23 grandchildren and 46 great-grandchildren.
Mr. Dolan was preceded in death by a son, William Glen Hoskins who died in 1999.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Andrew Dolan, Velton Devore, Doug Devore, Jessie Glyn Whitten, William Glyn Hoskins, Jr. and Thomas Enlow Hoskins, Jr. Honorary casketbearers were Michael Devore and Michael Johnson.
The family request that memorials be directed to the Fayette or Shelby County Chapters of the American Heart Association.
