Orville Benjamin Hunter, Jr.

Orville Benjamin Hunter, Jr., age 69, resident of Oakland, departed this life Tuesday evening, February 16, 2016 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

A Memorial Service for Mr. Hunter was conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, February 27, 2016 at the Family Worship Center, 3129 McGavock Pike in Nashville. Interment followed at the Woodlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Local arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mr. Hunter was born November 22, 1946 in Nashville. He received his education in the Davidson County School System and was employed as a financial analyst for Baird Ward Printing before his retirement. He was a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the Corinthian Masonic Lodge. Mr. Hunter was a past president of The Optimist Club at Martin, Tennessee and a Sergeant of Arms in the State Optimist Club. He had a love for history.

Mr. Hunter enjoyed running track, where he was the captain of the track team at John Overton High School in 1964 and received a track scholarship to Tennessee Technological University. Coaching softball and basketball for his daughters and telling jokes to make people laugh were favorite pastimes. He received much pleasure in dancing to 60’s music and playing golf.

Mr. Hunter is survived by four daughters, Tonya Gilley (Tracy) of Gallatin, Tara Erwin (Lex) of Martin, Tiffany Lynn (Jason) of Madison, AL, Megan Poore (Jared) of Kenton; 11 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren and his partner, Cynthia Williams of Oakland.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Orville Benjamin Hunter, Sr. and Maggie Quenton Dempsey Hunter; his brother, Dorris Dempsey Hunter; and two sisters, Catherine Hunter and Suzanne Hunter.
