Patricia Louise “Pat” Cruea Hughes, Somerville Community resident and wife of Jack Hughes died Sunday morning, December 11, 2011 at the National Health Care Center in Somerville where she had been a patient for three weeks. She was 71 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Hughes were conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, December 17th at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. Ken Burnette of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church in District 15 officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Hughes was born October 26, 1940 in Troy, Ohio. She was preceded in death by her parents, Norbert Cruea and Opal Gladys Arnett Cruea. She was educated in the Troy, Ohio Public School System. She was married on July 11, 1961 to Jack Hughes, retired from Ring Container Corporation at Oakland, who survives.
Mrs. Hughes was a former resident of the Oakland Community and had been a resident of the District 15 Community of Fayette County for 19 years. She was a devoted homemaker throughout her life and was a member of the Parks Chapel United Methodist Church in District 15. She had been a resident of Fayette County since 1986 and in earlier years was employed as a supervisor for the Huntsman Container Company in Memphis.
Known for her love of humor, Mrs. Hughes enjoyed fun times with family and friends and will be remembered for the love and devotion that she had for her husband, grandchildren and great grandson. Gardening, fishing and flowers were favorite pastimes and she received pleasure from sharing her garden vegetables with others.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Hughes is survived by her daughter, Connie Louise Gibson (Daryl) of Somerville; her son, Randall Eugene Hughes of Somerville; three sisters, Frances Reem of Lima, OH, Marlene Robins of Casper, WY, Doris Smith of Cookeville, TN; two brothers, Earl Cruea of Piqua, OH, Bill Cruea of Monterey, TN; two grandchildren and one great grandson.
Mrs. Hughes was also preceded in death by her daughter, Cassie Jean Hughes, who died after an extended illness of Multiple Sclerosis; her sister, Rosemary Boles; and two brothers, Norbert “Sonny” Cruea, Jr. and Virgil Cruea.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Terry Davis, Daryl Gibson, Garner Houston, Robert Stewart, Kenny Rooker and Bill Crook.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
