Patricia "Patti" (Bernarbo) Capps

April 17, 1939 — September 25, 2017

Patricia “Patti” Bernarbo Capps, age 78, resident of Lamar, Mississippi and wife of Orville Capps, died Monday, September 25, 2017 at St. Francis Hospital in Memphis.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Capps were conducted at 2 P.M. Friday, September 29, 2017 at Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville. The officiating ministers were Bro. Billy Adair and Bro. Tony Watkins. Interment will follow in the New Hope Baptist Church Cemetery in Slayden, Mississippi. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Capps was born April 17, 1939 in Orange Beach, Alabama and lived in the area until the late 1980’s. She was employed as a childcare provider for many years and was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Slayden, Mississippi. Mr. and Mrs. Capps worked with Jimmy Dobbs and then with Robert and Katharine Loeb on their farm in the Early Grove Community. Known to many as “Nanny” and “Aunt Patti”, Mrs. Capps was an avid hunter and had a special love for all of the kids she took care of over the years.

Mrs. Capps is survived by her husband, Orville Capps of Lamar, MS; her children, Lacey Lewis, Hayden Hurdle and Hannah Hurdle, all of Lamar, MS; and her brother, Donnie Bernarbo.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Al and Margie Bernarbo and two sisters, Dot and Alice.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Hayden Hurdle, Steve Hurdle, Bud Hurdle, Dale Sexton, Junie Adair and Mark Poff.

The family requests that memorials be directed to New Hope Baptist Church at Slayden, Mississippi.
