Paul Cocke, lifelong resident of the Somerville Community and retired carpenter departed this life Saturday afternoon, July 13, 2013 at the Methodist LeBonheur Hospital in Germantown where he had been a patient for five days. He was 60 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services for Mr. Cocke will be at 3 Tuesday afternoon at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with visitation one hour before services. Interment will follow in the Lamb Cemetery in the Lambert Community. Arrangements will be provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mr. Cocke was born March 2, 1953 in Fayette County, Tennessee. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ira Cocke and Katie Whittemore Cocke. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was self-employed as a carpenter for twenty years before his retirement.
Mr. Cocke was a Christian and enjoyed hunting, fishing, raising chickens and vegetable gardening. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette County and a people-person with a love for life and a person who "never met a stranger".
Mr. Cocke is survived by four sisters, Peggy Feathers of Somerville, Gracie Treadway of Somerville, Martha Burk of Stanton, TN, Ruby Hamilton of Stanton, TN; two brothers, Ira Allen Cocke of Whiteville, John W. Cocke of Somerville; and a large number of nieces and nephews.
Mr. Cocke was preceded in death by his sister, Shirley Maddox; and four brothers, James Cocke, Larry Cocke, Herman Cocke and Winston Whittemore.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers will be Ray Kee, Buddy Kee, Tommy Whittiemore, James Duncan, Jeff Voyles and Tom Kyzar.
Honorary casketbearers will be Ronnie Kee, David Whittiemore, Bobby Riles and Red Tomlinson.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
