Paul Crowell

Paul Abernathy Crowell, resident of the Hickory Withe Community, retired Memphis Firefighter and husband of Joyce Crowell died Friday morning, May 13, 2011 at the Methodist Le Bonheur Hospital in Germantown were he had been a patient for five days. He was 74 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Celebration of Life Services for Mr. Crowell were conducted at 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 17 ^th at the First Assembly of God Church on Walnut Grove Road in Memphis with Dr. Thomas Lindberg of the church, officiating. Interment, with Firefighter’s Honors, followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.

A native of Morris Chapel, Tennessee, Mr. Crowell was born April 12, 1937. He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer Crowell and Artie Austin Crowell. He was educated in the Morris Chapel Public School System and was married on March 26, 1961 to the former Joyce Largent, who survives.

Mr. Crowell was employed as a Firefighter for the Memphis Fire Department for 35 years before his retirement ten years ago. He had been a resident of Fayette County for the past ten years and was a devoted member of the First Assembly of God Church. Mr. Crowell will be remembered as an outdoorsman and a person who enjoyed caring for his yard, antique vehicles and special times with his family and friends.

In addition to his wife of 50 years, Mr. Crowell leaves his daughter: Holli Walker (Rich) of Memphis; his sons: Joe Crowell (Melanie) of Memphis, Mike Crowell of Hickory Withe; a sister: Pat Davis of Memphis; four grandchildren: Jack Walker, Adam Crowell, Lauren Walker and Grace Cowell.

Casketbearers were members of the Memphis Fire Department and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Teen Challenge Program of the First Assembly of God Church, 8650 Walnut Grove Road, Cordova, TN 38018.
