Peggy Seaton Barnes, age 87, resident of Somerville and wife of Billy Barnes, departed this life Monday evening at the National Healthcare Center of Somerville.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Barnes were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, July 14, 2016 at Somerville First United Methodist Church with Rev. Stan McDaniel officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Mrs. Barnes was born October 15, 1928, in Ripley, TN. She was a graduate of Ripley High School and was married on May 25, 1946 to Billy Gene Barnes. Mrs. Barnes and her husband were the owners of the Western Auto Store in Somerville for many years. She was a member of the Somerville First United Methodist Church and enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, cooking, sewing and entertaining. She was a member of Business and Professional Women, Somerville Women’s Club and Garden and Arts Club.
Mrs. Barnes is survived by her husband, Billy Gene Barnes of Somerville, TN, her daughter Carol Ann Neill and her husband, Ronnie, of Somerville; her son Bill Barnes and his wife, Debra, of Memphis, TN, her brother James Herbert Seaton, Jr. and his wife Carolyn of Ripley, TN, four grandchildren, Blake Barnes, Allison Barnes, Sara Barnes and Seaton Neill, and four nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents James Herbert Seaton and Fannie Cash Seaton.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Seaton Neill, Blake Barnes, Dwight Vandergrift, Mike Kee, Ed Harvey and Steve Shelton. Honorary pallbearers were Joe Shelton, David Fowler, Robert Sanford, Dr. Jack Sanford, A. G. Scroggins, and Dan Vandergrift.
The family requests that memorials be directed to Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 South East Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
