Peggy Jean (Vickers) Canady

September 7, 1932 — February 13, 2017

Peggy Jean Vickers Canady, age 84, resident of Oakland and wife of the late Billy Ray Canady, Sr., departed this life Monday morning, February 13, 2017 at her residence.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Canady were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, February 15, 2017 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Larry Tubb, pastor of the Macon United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – West Chapel at Oakland.

Mrs. Canady was born September 7, 1932 in Hahira, Georgia. She was preceded in death by her parents, Burke Vickers and Sulula Lehman Vickers. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School in Lowndes County, Georgia and was married January 31, 1953 to Billy Ray “Big Daddy” Canady, Sr., who preceded her in death on January 19, 2009.

Mrs. Canady was a homemaker throughout her life and a longtime resident of the Oakland area. She was of the Baptist faith and enjoyed gardening, tending to her flowers, drinking sweet tea and watching her baby deer, Moses. She was a family-oriented person and taking care of her grandchildren was a passion in life.

Mrs. Canady is survived by two daughters, Vicky Benson (George) of Eads, TN, Belinda Canady Markle (Terry) of Williston, TN; two sons, Billy Canady, Jr. (Terrye) of Oakland, TN, Clay Canady, Sr. (Barbara) of Oakland, TN; two sisters, Katherine Sims of Valdosta, GA, June Rambo (Evans) of Valdosta, GA; nine grandchildren, Christopher Benson, Farrah Anderson, Brandy Kirkpatrick, Lori Avanzi, Erin Canady, Brittany Watkins, Billy Canady III, Paige Browning, Clayton Canady, Jr.; and ten great-grandchildren, Kayden Thearp, Dani Lynn Watkins, Zach Anderson, Taylor Anderson, Kaleb Kirkpatrick, Kooper Kirkpatrick, Waylon Brogden, Dixie Canady, Aliyah Avanzi and Selena Avanzi.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Michael Eugene Canady; her twin sister, Martha Josheff and eight siblings.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Christopher Benson, Zach Anderson, Kyle Kirkpatrick, Brett Anderson, Clayton Canady, Jr. and Billy Canady, III. Honorary pallbearers were Matt Avanzi, Kaleb Kirkpatrick, Daniel Watkins and Tyler Browning.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
