Peggy Louise (Martin) Maier

August 21, 1936 — October 14, 2015

Peggy Louise Martin Maier, age 79, resident of the District 15 Community in Fayette County and retired waitress and cook, departed this life Wednesday morning, October 14, 2015 at the St. Francis Hospital in Bartlett.

Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Maier were conducted at 2 P.M. Monday, October 19, 2015 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Bro. David Reeves, pastor of the Midway Baptist Church in Whiteville, officiating. A prayer was given by James Teague and special music was provided by Mrs. Maier’s granddaughter, Rhiannon Maier. Intermen followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mrs. Maier was born August 21, 1936 in the District 15 Community of Fayette County. She was preceded in death by her parents, Elbert Martin and Lois Catherine Glover Martin. She received her education in the Parks Elementary School and Fayette County High School. Mrs. Maier was employed as a waitress and cook at The Hut and later at the Main Street Eatery, both in Somerville, before retiring for health reasons.

Mrs. Maier was a member of the Somerville First Baptist Church and attended Mt. Olive Baptist Church in the District 15 Community. She was well-known in the area for preparing food and she enjoyed working in her yard and vacationing in the Smoky Mountains. She collected Barbie dolls, having over 500 in her collection. Mrs. Maier will be remembered as a family-oriented person who enjoyed special times with her family and friends.

Mrs. Maier is survived by her daughter, Mary L. Lewis of Somerville; her sister, Bonnie Cannon of Somerville; her brother, John “Jack” Martin of Michie; six half-brothers, Ricky Cannon of Williston, Harry Cannon of Williston, Teddy Cannon of Somerville, Peter Cannon of Somerville, Bobby Cannon of Oakland, Thomas “Scrap” Cannon of Somerville; five grandchildren, Crystal Herron, Kenneth Benson, Rhiannon Maier, Marlena Maier, Veronica Lewis; and three great-grandchildren, Chase Elrod, Taylor Elrod and Landon Elrod.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter, Joyce Anne Jacobs and her half-brother, David Allen “Sampson” Cannon.

Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Davy Bateman, Chase Elrod, Brian Herron, Bobby Cannon, Larry Cannon and Barry Cannon.
