PEGGY JOYCE JOHNSON MONTAGUE, longtime resident of the Warren Community, wife of Louis Montague and a person active throughout her life in the religious, community and agricultural activities of Fayette County, died at 3 P.M. Saturday, September 22, 2007 at her residence on Christopher Road. She was 69 years of age and died following an illness of several months.
Funeral Services for Mrs. Montague were conducted at 1 P.M. Tuesday, September 25th at the Somerville Church of Christ with Mike Yates, Chris Coil and Leo Powers officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Hwy. 64 at Oakland. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel.
Mrs. Montague was born December 11, 1937 in Lexington, TN, the daughter of the late Theodore Dudley Johnson and the late Clora Evelyn Cagle Johnson. She moved at an early age with her family to the Whiteville and Somerville Communities, attended local schools and was a graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville. She was married July 22, 1956 to Louis L. Montague of Fayette County, who survives.
Mrs. Montague will be remembered as a person with many interests. She was a devoted homemaker, wife, mother and grandmother who was a Bible School Teacher for much of her life. She was an active member of the Somerville Church of Christ, where she taught the third and fourth grade children's class and also the adult ladies class. She was associated with her family in the operation of the Montague family farm and in their property development. She was active in community affairs that included serving as an Ambassador and Membership Chairman for the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce for a number of years. Preparing food for her family and friends, entertaining and flower gardening were special loves of Mrs. Montague.
In addition to her husband Mrs. Montague is survived by her daughter, Robin Peak and husband Donnie Peak of Somerville; two sons, Dr. Tim Montague and wife, Dr. Sandy Montague of Covington and Andy Montague and wife, Michele Montague of Oakland; her sister, Pat Gonzales of Collierville and 8 grandchildren.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Chris Peak, Ben McNabb, Garrett Montague, Christopher Montague, Caleb Montague and Casey Montague.
Honorary casketbearers were Toby McNabb, Jonathan Bliss and Kyle Bliss.
