Peggye Anne Carter

Peggye Anne Carter, resident of Bolivar and retired Educator died at 5:10 A.M. Monday, March 9, 2009 at the Bolivar General Hospital. She was 80 years of age and died following a four-month illness.
Funeral services for Miss Carter were conducted at 1 P.M. Wednesday, March 11, 2009 at the First United Methodist Church in Bolivar with Rev. Sandra Leatherwood, Pastor of the church, officiating. Interment followed in the Union Cemetery at Bolivar. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - Main Chapel of Somerville.
Miss Carter was born November 3, 1928, in Bolivar; the daughter of the late Huge Edgar Carter, Sr. and the late Kate Lenora Finger Carter, early residents of Hardeman County. She was educated in the Hardeman County Public School System and received her Bachelor's Degree from Blue Mountain College at Blue Mountain, Mississippi, and later received her Master's Degree in Education from the University of Memphis.
Miss Carter was a school teacher in the Shelby County School System for a number of years and retired as a teacher in the Memphis City Public School System. She returned to Bolivar after her retirement and was a devoted member of the Bolivar First United Methodist Church and participated in numerous church activities as long as health permitted. She was also an active participant in the community Bible Study in Somerville for a number of years.
The last survivor of her immediate family, Miss Carter is survived by a devoted friend, Mrs. Wanza Boswell of Bolivar. She also leaves numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and great-great -nieces and -nephews.
David Burrell, A. L. Grace, Moorman McAnulty, Gem Mitchell, Buddy Nelms, "Nubbins" Ross, Barrett Stevens, Frank Wilhite and Jerry Wilhite served as active and honorary casket bearers.
