Philip Bowling, age 74, resident of Lakeland, Tennessee, departed this life Wednesday morning, December 20, 2023 at Methodist LeBonheur Germantown Hospital.
Philip was born June 4, 1949 in Memphis, Tennessee, the son of the late Smith Warren Bowling and Eva Mae Tapp Bowling. He served his country in the United States Army during the Vietnam War period and and worked for many years as a territory manager and later as a salesman before his retirement. Philip loved his family, especially his children, and was a "surrogate" father to many of their friends. He raised exotic birds and enjoyed buying, flipping and selling old cars. He was a fan of John Wayne and the westerns of his youth that made him a cowboy at heart.
Philip is survived by his partner of 15 years, Martha Smith; his daughter, Maggie Bowling; two sons, Matthew Bowling and Daniel Bowling (Rebecca); and two sisters, Janet Bowling and Angela Bowling. In addition to his parents, his sister, Carolyn Bowling, preceded him in death.
Graveside Services for Mr. Bowling were held at 1 P.M. Tuesday, December 26, 2023 at Hebron Cemetery near Somerville.
The family requests that memorials be directed to LeBonheur Children’s Hospital, 848 Adams Avenue, Memphis, TN 38103.
