Prentice Elrod

May 31, 1932 — April 3, 2017

Prentice Elrod, age 84, resident of the Laconia Community and husband of Judy Elrod, departed this life Monday morning, April 3, 2017 at his residence.

A Celebration of Life Service for Mr. Elrod was conducted at 2 P.M. Saturday, April 8, 2017 at the Peebles Main Funeral Chapel in Somerville with Shane Porter officiating. Interment was private. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.

Mr. Elrod was born May 31, 1932 in Brownsville, Tennessee. He received his education in the “old school house” in Whiteville, Tennessee and was married May 9, 1959 to the former Judy Karlson. Mr. Elrod was a former resident of Illinois and was employed as a factory worker at Kerr Glass Manufacturing in Chicago before his retirement. He was a resident of Fayette County for 20 years and was a member of the Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church in Whiteville. Mr. Elrod was an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan and enjoyed collecting coins and outdoor activities that included gardening and fishing.

Mr. Elrod is survived by his wife of 57 years, Judy Elrod of Laconia, TN; his daughter, Lynn Elrod Clifton (Kent) of Pittsburgh, PA; his son, Michael D. Elrod (Vivian) of Chicago, IL; three sisters, Olivia Watson of Brownsville, TN, Margaret Phillips of Whiteville, TN, Nancy Swain of Somerville, TN; and five grandchildren, Raven Clifton, K.C. Clifton, Cole Clifton, Mikey Elrod and Madison Elrod.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gustie Dallas Elrod and Mary Odell Benard Elrod; his sister, MaryAnn Pendergrast; and two brothers, Bob Elrod and Ernest Elrod.

The family wants to give grateful appreciation to Sharon and Dwight Porter, Otis and Bernice Bernard, Candis Cross, Judy Pulliam, Crossroads Hospice of Memphis, Shane Porter and Dr. Karl Rhea, Jr.

The family requests that memorials be directed to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital , P.O. Box 1000, Department 142, Memphis, TN 38148.
