Randy David Nowell, a resident of Memphis and former Hickory Withe Community, departed this life Tuesday evening, January 10, 2012 at his residence. He was 53 years of age and died unexpectedly.

Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Nowell were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, January 18th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Eddie Little of the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Nowell was born August 23, 1958 in Memphis to William David Nowell and Delores Jean Goodman Nowell. He was a graduate of Sheffield High School and served in the United States Navy as a young person. Mr. Nowell had been involved in the construction and roofing business for much of his life, operating with his nephew a roofing business in Texas in earlier years.

He will be remembered as an adventuresome person who also was employed as an oil rig operator in Alaska and Louisiana. Mr. Nowell was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered for his love of outdoors, artwork, fishing, hunting, woodworking and carving.

Mr. Nowell is survived by his daughter, Dana Marie Nowell Moss; his son, David Ray Nowell Moss; his parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Nowell of Hickory Withe; and two brothers, Gary Nowell of Memphis and Greg Nowell of Hickory Withe.

He is also survived by a lifelong friend that he considered a brother, Charlie Ford. Randy and Charlie were friends in school years, joined the Navy at the same time, served on the same aircraft carrier and remained friends throughout the years.

Mr. Nowell was preceded in death by his brother, Danny Nowell, who died April 3, 2006.

Casketbearers were family members and friends and the family requests that memorials be directed to the Hickory Withe First Baptist Church, 17675 Highway 196, Eads, TN 38028.
