RAYMOND MILTON BOWERS

RAYMOND MILTON BOWERS, a resident of the Hickory Withe Community, U.S. Veteran, retired Butcher and husband of the late Leara Bowers died Sunday, August 23, 2009 at his residence. He was 90 years of age and died following a three-year illness.

Funeral Services with Military Honors were conducted for Mr. Bowers at 10 A.M. Friday, August 28th at the Graveside with Rev. Robert (Bob) Jansen, of the Well's Station Baptist Church in Memphis, officiating. Interment followed in the Memorial Park Cemetery on Poplar Avenue in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.

Mr. Bowers was born in the Brunswick Community of Shelby County on March 31, 1919. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. James T. Bowers.

He received his education in the Memphis City Public School System and was a United States Army Veteran during the World War II Period.

Mr. Bowers was employed as a Butcher for much of his life and was a longtime employee of the A & P Grocery Chain in Memphis for many years before his retirement twenty-three years ago.

He was a member of the Leawood Baptist Church in Memphis and was a resident of Shelby County before moving to the Hickory Withe Community thirty years ago.

He was preceded in death by his wife, the former Leara Pearl Price who was an employee of the Seesel's Food Stores before her retirement.

Mr. Bowers will be remembered for his enjoyment of fishing and love of nature.

Survivors of Mr. Bowers include his son, William Lee Bowers of Braden; three grandchildren and a host of great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Raymond J. Bowers and twelve brothers and sisters.
