RAYMOND CRAWFORD COLE, SR., a resident of Somerville, retired Garment Industry Plant Manager and husband of Winnie Cole died Tuesday morning, January 26, 2010 at the Methodist Fayette Hospital in Somerville where he had been a patient for a day. He was 76 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Cole were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, January 28th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Dr. Ken Culver, Pastor of the Warren Community Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment and a graveside service followed at 2 p.m. Friday, January 29th in the Christ Church Cemetery in Bastrop, Louisiana. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Cole was born January 3, 1934 in Rowell, Arkansas. He was preceded in death by his parents, Alvin Lee Cole and Faye Covington Cole.
He received his education in the Woodlawn School in Cleveland County, Arkansas and was married April 15, 1977 to the former Winnie Carroll of Bastrop, who survives.
Mr. Cole served as a Plant Manager in the Garment Industry in various locations for thirty-six years before his retirement eleven years ago.
He had been a resident of the Somerville Community for the past twenty-five years and was a former resident of Bastrop.
He was a Mason and a member of the Warren Community Church in Somerville.
Mr. Cole was dedicated to his vocation, and his interests included fishing, hunting, camping with his family and the repairing of sewing machines required for his industry.
In addition to his wife of thirty-two years, survivors of Mr. Cole include his son, R. C. Cole, Jr. of Somerville, TN; his step-daughter, Shelley Copeland of Bastrop, LA; two sisters, Esther Cole Vinson and Lorene Cole Vinson, both of Dallas, TX; his brother, Embry Cole of Pine Bluff, AR; three grandchildren: Regina McCoy Williams, Robbie McCoy Hinson and Payton Simone and four great-grandchildren: Peyton Hinson, Haley Williams, Mason Williams and Alle Hinson.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Pamela Cole Dedrick; two sisters, Syble Cole Beard and Merlene Cole Morgan and a brother, Earl Cole.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were family members and friends.
