Raymond Alston Grantham, Jr., age 74, resident of Lakeland and husband of LaRue Britt Grantham, departed this life Sunday morning, May 8, 2016 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance with Military Honors for Mr. Grantham were conducted at 2 P.M. Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Jack Gilbert officiating. Interment followed in the Fayette County Memorial Park Cemetery on Highway 64. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mr. Grantham was born March 4, 1942 in Wayne County, North Carolina. He was a graduate of the Goldsboro High School in Goldsboro, North Carolina and attended North Carolina State University and East Carolina College. He served his country in the United States Air Force and was married for 55 years to the former LaRue Britt. Mr. Grantham was of the Baptist faith and employed for 20 years at Federal Express in Memphis, retiring as a managing director. He was a member of MSSA (Memphis Sport Shooting Association) and enjoyed woodworking, traveling in his motor home, boating and riding his motorcycle. He will be remembered as an avid hunter.
Mr. Grantham is survived by wife of 55 years, LaRue Britt Grantham of Lakeland; his daughter, Robin Curry and her husband, Garry, of Mason, Tennessee; his son, Andy Grantham and his wife, Tina, of Bartlett, Tennessee; and four grandchildren, Justin Todd, Lauren Todd, Cody Grantham and Katie Grantham.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond Alston Grantham, Sr. and Lyda Sasser Grantham; and his sister, Arlene Grantham Davis.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Bobby Dunavant, Mitch Sparks, Cory Foster, Brandon Curry, Will Curry and Bill Madsen. Honorary pallbearers included Walt Maki.
