Raymond Lee Roy “Elvis” King, resident of Olive Branch, Mississippi, former resident of the Somerville Community, United States Army Veteran, retired Convenience Store Manager and husband of Shirley Ann King died Friday afternoon, April 13, 2012 at his residence. He was 59 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. King were conducted at 10 A.M. Tuesday, April 17, 2012 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Pastor Rodney Van Winkle of the Faith Church of God in Somerville officiating. Interment with Military Honors followed in the West Tennessee Veterans Cemetery in Memphis. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes and Cremation Center — West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. King was born March 30, 1953 in Somerville. He was preceded in death by his parents, Luther Franklin King and Loretta Kee King. He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and served in the United States Army during the Vietnam period. Mr. King was employed as Manager of the Barton’s Texaco Convenience Store in Memphis for over 23 years before his illness. He was of the Baptist faith and will be remembered as an avid fan of Elvis Presley and his music. Western movies were a favorite pastime and he will be remembered for his love of telling stories and special times with family and friends. He was a lifelong resident of Fayette, Shelby and Desoto County areas and was married July 30, 1973 to the former Shirley Ann David of Marks, Mississippi, who survives.
In addition to his wife, Mr. King leaves two daughters, Deborah King of Olive Branch, MS, Evelyn Jewell of Moscow; two sons, Raymond L. King, Jr. of Olive Branch, MS, James Leroy King of Horn Lake, MS; his sister, Bessie Sides of Memphis; four brothers, Jimmy King of Whiteville, Johnny King of Somerville, Frankie King of Somerville, Morris King of Somerville; and nine grandchildren, Dustin James King, Jeanie Marie Jewell, Dominique Nicole Ragsdale, Chloe Nicole King, Jesse Adam Jewell, Raymond Lee Roy King, III, Christopher Franklin Cagle, Hunter James King and Ruby Ann Cagle.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Dominique Ragsdale, Chloe King, Raymond King, Jr., James King, Christopher Deer and Keith Jeffries.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor’s choice.
