ROBERT DAVID POUND, resident of the Arlington Community, retired employee of Youth Villages, Dogwood Campus on Highway 64 and husband of Debra Hannah Pound died Tuesday evening, February 10, 2009 at the Jackson-Madison County General Hospital in Jackson, Tennessee. He was 54 years of age and died following an extended illness.
A Celebration Of Life Service for Mr. Pound was conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, February 14th at the Arlington Church of Christ with Mark Taylor, Minister of the Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis, officiating. Moments of Reflection were given by Carroll Beardain, Linda Colley, Donald McCulley, James King, Bill Hannah, Mike Thomas, Paula Jordan, Rocky Horton, Tom Alexander and Mark Taylor. Interment followed in the Arlington Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Pound was born July 15, 1954 in Memphis the son of the late Cedric Erroll Pound and the late Bernice Thompson Pound. After the death of his parents, he joined the family of Dick and Peggy McCulley and attended Fayette County Schools in the Braden Community. Mr. Pound was a Graduate of the Fayette County High School in Somerville, Class of 1972.
Mr. Pound was married February 15, 1974 to the former Debra Hannah of Arlington who survives.
Mr. Pound was employed by Youth Villages, Dogwood Campus from 1988 to January of 2009 where his title of Maintenance Supervisor for the campus extended to a multi-faceted position that included special care for the children as well as the facility.
A dedicated Christian, Coach and mentor to many, Mr. Pound was an avid University of Tennessee Sports Fan who was active in community, religious and sport activities throughout his life. He was a member of the Sycamore View Church of Christ in Memphis and had formerly been a member of the Arlington Church of Christ where he served as a Deacon of the congregation.
Mr. Pound was a person who touched the lives of many. He lived his faith, and his love of God was seconded by his love of people. He was a kind and generous man who welcomed people of all ages into his heart and home.
Mr. Pound's intelligence, wit and lively personality will be remembered by the many people, both young and old who knew and loved him.
He was a devoted husband and father with a generous spirit who impacted all who knew him.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Pound is survived by two sons, Anthony David Pound of New York City, NY and Robert Daniel Pound of Chattanooga, TN; his foster mother, Peggy McCulley of Arlington; his extended family: Bernice Lynch of Eads; Linda Colley (Jeff) of Enid, MS; Cindy Leftwich of Tampa, FL; Claudie Horton (George) and Carolyn Chambers, all of Arlington; David McCulley and Donald McCulley, both of Jackson; DeWayne McCulley of Gallaway; Don Hannah (Ruby) of Arlington; Bill Hannah (Linda) of Eads; Mike Hannah (Freeda) of Arlington and Steve Hannah (Connie) of Gallaway; Wally DeLaney (Betty Carol) of Brownsville; the Family of Youth Villages, his Christian Family and the many other lives that he influenced.
He was preceded in death by family member, Henry Hannah (Ann) of Arlington.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Randy Boling, Will Chambers, Jeff Colley, Jason DeLaney, Jamie Hannah, Steve Hannah, T.J. Hannah and Rocky Horton.
