Rebecca "Becky" Day Ozier, age 93, resident of Somerville and wife of the late Richard P. Ozier, Jr., died peacefully on March 25, 2016.
Services of Remembrance for Mrs. Ozier were conducted at 2 P.M. Tuesday, March 29, 2016 at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Bro. Mike Pilcher officiating. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center - West Chapel at Oakland.
Mrs. Ozier was born November 4, 1922 in Atlanta, Georgia to Iverson and Johnny Lee Day. She married Richard P. Ozier, Jr. in January 1942. She was a military wife during his service in World War II. After his tour of duty, they returned to the Ozier family farm in Somerville. Mrs. Ozier shared her love of dance as a dance teacher. She was also a Deputy Circuit Court Clerk in Fayette County, a bank teller at First State Bank, and she was employed by West Tennessee Realty. She was an active member of Somerville First United Methodist Church and sang in the choir for many years. Spending time working in her beautiful flower garden and watching her backyard wildlife were some of her greatest pleasures. She will be remembered as a devoted wife, loving mother, and a joyful grandmother and great grandmother.
Mrs. Ozier is survived by her daughters, Barbara Ozier Lewis (Vip) of Moscow and Rebecca Ozier Rhea (Sam) of Somerville; her brother, Howard Day of Douglasville, Georgia; her five grandchildren, Paul Lewis (Kim), Lee Rhea Thornton (Carl), Mandy Lewis Crane (Tripp), Jamie Rhea, and Courtney Rhea. She is also survived by her five great grandchildren, Rachel Crane, Sam Thornton, Elizabeth Crane, Annie Thornton, and Andrew Crane, as well as her devoted caretaker, Susan Steel. The family would also like to thank the kind nurses from Crossroads Hospice.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers will be Calvin Ozier, Harry Ozier, Paul Lewis, Tripp Crane, Carl Thornton and John Easley.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Somerville First United Methodist Church, 202 S. East Street, Somerville, TN 38068.
