Rev. Alfred Edward “Al” Davis, age 72, resident of the Somerville Community, minister for Landmark Baptist Church and husband of Kelly McMahan Davis, departed this life Tuesday afternoon, June 16, 2015 at the Baptist Memorial Hospital in Memphis.
Services of Remembrance for Rev. Davis were conducted at 10 A.M. Saturday, June 20th at the Landmark Baptist Church in Somerville with Dr. Bobby Elliott of Jackson, Tennessee, officiating. Remarks were given by Wilbur Robichaux and Peggy Tidwell. Special music was provided by Suzanne Davis, soloist and Kay Robichaux, pianist. Interment followed in the Somerville City Cemetery. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes & Cremation Center – Main Chapel of Somerville.
Rev. Davis was born October 12, 1942 in Morgantown, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vance Davis and Ethel Bluff Davis. He was a graduate of Glen Alpine High School in Morgantown and was married December 2, 1961 to the former Kelly McMahan, who survives. He was a former resident of Lenoir, North Carolina before moving to the Somerville Community 33 years ago.
Rev. Davis was a man of very strong faith. He was the pastor of Landmark Baptist Church in Somerville and he held his church family very close to his heart. He enjoyed discussing politics, working on cars, woodworking, carpentry and was an avid Memphis Grizzlies fan.
In addition to his wife of 53 years, Rev. Davis is survived by three sons, Mike Davis of McCloud, OK, Dewayne Davis (Sally) of Atlanta, GA, Chris Davis (Suzanne) of Forest, VA; his sister, Margaret Davis of Morgantown, NC; three brothers, Dr. Donald Davis, Clifton Davis, Rev. Gary Davis; five grandchildren, Olivia Davis, Joseph Davis, Elizabeth Davis, Andrew Davis, Christopher Davis; two great grandchildren, Jayden Davis, Carter Davis; and two step-grandchildren, Andy Salemi and Samantha Salemi.
Those honored to serve as pallbearers were Joseph Davis, Andrew Davis, Christopher Davis, Wilbur Robichaux, Dewayne Davis and Chris Davis.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the Landmark Baptist Church, 16440 U.S. Highway 64, Somerville, TN 38068.
