Rev. Joseph George Justin, a resident of the Cordova Community and husband of Doris Saylor Justin departed this life Monday evening, June 13, 2011 at his residence. He was 82 years of age and died following a brief illness.

Services Celebrating the life of Rev. Justin were conducted at 2 P.M. Thursday, June 16 th at the Bethany Christian Church at Eads with a grandson, Pastor Aaron Justin of Reynoldsburg, Ohio officiating with other sharing personal remarks. Interment followed in the Bethany Cemetery and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—Main Chapel of Somerville.

Rev. Justin was born August 16, 1928 in Hamilton, Ohio. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ervin Justin and Ellen Gusweiler Justin. Rev. Justin received his education in Long Beach, California and was a graduate of the Pacific Bible Seminary and also Pacific School of Religion at Berkley, California. He was married October 15, 1950 to the former Doris Saylor of Delano, California, who survives.

During his ministerial career Rev. Justin pastored churches in various areas that included Dinuba, California, Hanford, California, Fresno, California and Honolulu, Hawaii. He was also instrumental in forming a “Drive In Church” at a Drive In Movie Theater in Long Beach, California, one of the first Drive In Churches in the United States.

Rev. Justin had been a resident of West Tennessee since 1994 and after his retirement he served as interim minister in various area congregations that included Bethany Christian Church, Pleasants Christian Church, Kirk Christian Church and Decatur Trinity Christian Church.

In addition to his wife of 60 years, Rev. Justin is survived by his daughter: Rebecca Justin of Madera, California; his sons: Joe Justin, Jr. (Laura) of Bartlett, Tennessee and Ervin Justin (Sandy) of Clovis, California; five grandchildren: Aaron Justin, Jeanene Mutchler, Grace Rawner, Brook Justin, Josh Justin and three great-grandchildren.

Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Dennis Smith, Bo Ruthledge, Gary Bryan, Brian Brawner, Spencer Brawner and William Mutchler.

The family requests that memorials be directed to the Bethany Christian Church, 421 Bethany, Eads, TN 38028.
