Rev. Raymond Rex Hollaway,
resident of Bethel Springs, TN, former resident of Fayette County and Baptist minister for over 65 years before his retirement died Wednesday morning, December 8, 2010
at the McNairy County HealthCare Center in Selmer where he had been a resident for the past four months. He was 93 years of age and died following a brief illness.
A Celebration of Life Service for Rev. Hollaway was conducted at 11 A.M. Saturday, December 11
th
at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Billy Joe Stewart and Rev. Lynn Eagan, officiating. Interment followed in the Vernon Cemetery at Toone, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Rev. Hollaway was born in Booneville, Mississippi on July 5, 1917. He was preceded in death by his parents, Christopher Hollaway and Hattie Bell Shamblin Hollaway. Rev. Hollaway was educated in the Prentiss County Public School System and was a graduate of Jumpertown High School near Booneville, MS, and later received his ministerial degree from Union University at Jackson, TN. He was married June 15, 1946 to the former Margie Lee Cusic, who preceded him in death on October 11, 1994.
During his lengthy career as a Southern Baptist Minister, Rev. Hollaway served seventeen churches located in Arkansas, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee. In earlier years his churches included Fayette County pastorates at Liberty Baptist Church, Galloway Baptist Church, Shady Grove Baptist Church and Kirk Baptist Church. Rev. Hollaway served for eleven years as Director of Missions for the Fayette Baptist Association before his retirement. He had been a resident of Bethel Springs for the past seven years and during his ministerial career served as an inspiration to many because of his kindness, sincerity and compassion for others. Rev. Hollaway officiated at countless funerals, weddings and revivals during his lifetime and was a friend to people of all backgrounds and faiths.
Survivors one daughter, Elaine Busbee (Rick) of Acworth, Georgia, two sons, Rex Hollaway (Donna) of Memphis, Rev. Mike Hollaway (Judy) of Bethel Springs, Tennessee, ten
grandchildren, sixteen great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his two sons, Rev. David Hollaway and O’Neal Hollaway.

Andrew Hollaway, Ben Hollaway, Jeffrey Hollaway, Michael Hollaway, Melissa Hollaway and Tim Hollaway.
Honorary casketbearers were
James Barrett, Charles Berry, Rick Busbee, Wayne Cox, William Dowdy, Earl Hill and Johnny Lowrance.
