RICHARD H. BOX, a resident of the Warren Community in Fayette County and retired Construction Company Employee died Thursday morning, January 7, 2010 at the Methodist University Hospital in Memphis where he had been a patient for two-and-a-half weeks. He was 60 years of age and died following an extended illness.
Funeral services for Mr. Box were conducted at 3 P.M. Saturday, January 9th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. John Ed Watkins, Pastor of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church in Somerville, officiating. Interment was private and arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes-West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Box was born in Fayette County on September 4, 1949. He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Box and Lorene Austin Box.
He received his education in the Fayette County Public School System and was a Construction Company Employee in West Tennessee for much of his life.
He was employed by the Morris Lumber Company in Somerville for over twenty years before retiring for health reasons.
Mr. Box was a member of the Morris Chapel Baptist Church and a lifelong resident of the Fayette County area.
He will be remembered as a person who enjoyed working with his hands and referred to himself as a "Professional Tinkerer". After his illness, favorite pastimes included hours on his computer and repairing items for friends and family members.
Survivors of Mr. Box include his son, Johnny Box of Ashland, MS; two sisters, Carolyn Box of Moscow and Melissa Edwards of Somerville; his brother, Kenneth Box of Falmouth, MI and one grandson, Brayden Box of Ashland, MS.
The family requests that memorials be directed to the church, charity or organization of the donor's choice.
