Richard Eugene “Gene” Houston, resident of Milan, Tennessee and son of Bobby Houston, a former resident of the Macon Community in Fayette County, died Monday morning, April 4, 2011 at the Milan Health Care Center. He received injuries in a vehicle accident 19 years ago and had been a resident of the Health Care Center since that time. He was 49 years of age.
Services of Remembrance for Mr. Houston were conducted at 2:30 P.M. Wednesday, April 6 th at the Peebles West Funeral Chapel at Oakland with Rev. Kenny Hodnette, pastor of New Life Baptist Church in Memphis, officiating. Interment followed in the Macon Cemetery at Macon, Tennessee. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Homes—West Chapel of Oakland.
Mr. Houston was born June 9, 1961 in Memphis and received his education in the Shelby County Public School System. He was employed in the Sheet Metal Industry before the vehicle accident. Mr. Houston was of the Baptist Faith and will be remembered as an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, hunting and fishing in earlier years.
Mr. Houston is survived by his father and step-mother: Bobby and Jane Houston of Bartlett; his half-sister: Ginger Clark of Memphis and his half-brother: Bobby Allen Houston of Bartlett.
Those honored to serve as casketbearers were Nicholas Kirkland, Christopher Long, Barry Looney, James Matthews, Johnny Matthews, Michael Matthews and Ricky Rockhold.
