RICHMOND NATHANIEL GORE, a resident of the Somerville Community, retired Educator and husband of Joy Davenport Gore died at 1:15 P.M. Wednesday, February 18, 2009 at his home on Teague Store Road. He was 72 years of age and died following a six-month illness.
Funeral Services for Mr. Gore were conducted at 3 P.M. Friday, February 20th at the Graveside with Chaplain Richard Kilpatrick of the Caris Hospice Organization in Somerville, officiating. Interment followed in the LaGrange Cemetery at LaGrange, TN. Arrangements were provided by Peebles Fayette County Funeral Home-Main Chapel of Somerville.
A native of Hernando, Mississippi, Mr. Gore was born June 23, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Richmond Noah Gore and Zula Littleton Gore. He was educated in the Desoto County School System and was a 1953 Graduate of Hernando High School. He completed his Undergraduate studies at the University of Mississippi in Oxford and received his Master's Degree at the University of Memphis.
Mr. Gore served as a School Administrator in the Memphis City School System for over thirty-two years before his retirement eleven years ago.
He served in the United States Army Reserve as a young person and was married March 27, 1964 to the former Joy Davenport of LaGrange, who survives. Mr. and Mrs. Gore were residents of Memphis for a number of years during his teaching and school administration career and became residents of the Somerville Community five years ago.
In later years Mr. Gore enjoyed operating flea markets in Memphis; Tupelo, Mississippi and Somerville where he developed many strong and lasting friendships with his patrons.
He was of the Baptist faith and had a special admiration for animals, wildlife and nature. His other interests included woodworking and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gore is survived by his daughter, Holly Truebger of Memphis; two sons, Richmond N. Gore of Hammond, LA and Todd Gore of Hernando, MS; three grandchildren: Jason Gore, Britney Gore and Chelsey Ritch and one great-grandson, Tristan Gore.
Those honored to serve as casket bearers were Kirby L. Cate, Franklin Davenport, Paul Davenport, Ronnie Davenport, Ed Patnode and Brad Thurber.
